Dear Parents and Students of the Class of 2020,
Congratulations! The graduation celebration is finally here. The entire Escondido Charter High School staff is excited and looking forward to celebrating with your family.
On Saturday, June 20, between 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m., the staff will host a modified drive-through graduation ceremony at Escondido Charter High School. Graduates, along with their families, are invited to participate in a graduation procession in which families will parade through our beautiful campus. Along the route, students will be greeted and cheered by their teachers, coaches, and mentors who have loved and supported them through the years. There will be a number of featured stations along the path that will celebrate various milestones of their educational journey.
The procession will begin at the Escondido Charter High School Midway entrance located at 465 North Midway Drive and end at the main entrance to the campus. Cars will exit onto Valley Parkway at the east gate of the main campus. View the procession route by clicking the link here. The route will be clearly marked and staff will help direct traffic. Be prepared to be in your vehicle for up to an hour. Parents are encouraged to decorate their vehicles to celebrate their graduates, our school, and to express gratitude to teachers and staff. Feel free to bring your own refreshments, but please note due to the current health guidelines the restrooms will be closed to the public.
In order to manage traffic and to keep the procession moving at a reasonable pace, only one vehicle per graduate will be permitted. Moreover, families have been assigned a specific time to arrive at campus based on the schedule below:
3:00-3:30 p.m. Last Names A-C
3:30-4:00 p.m. Last Names D-H
4:00-4:30 p.m. Last Names I-L
4:30-5:00 p.m. Last Names M-P
5:00-5:30 p.m. Last Names Q-S
5:30-6:00 p.m. Last Names T-Z
Please stay in your vehicle during the procession. Parents are encouraged to take photographs from their vehicles. The event will also be livestreamed on Facebook so parents and students can share the experience with family and friends. A link will be emailed home later next week.
There will be two stations along the route where the graduates will be given the opportunity to participate. The first will be a fun photo opportunity for the student, and the other will be at the main stage at the end of the procession where the graduate will receive his or her diploma. There will be a professional photographer at both locations, so please do not exit your vehicle to take pictures. All pictures will be provided to students and families for free when the student picks up his or her official diploma on June 25. Along the route, students and parents are encouraged to take photographs from their vehicles of the cheering staff, faculty, and coaches, as well as the areas of the campus that bring back important high school memories.
After the graduation procession, the ECHS staff will livestream a commencement video at 8:00 p.m. (Please note the time change.) The video will include student speeches, the presentation of awards and scholarships, and a short video highlighting the Class of 2020. Visit this page to access the link:

Students are expected to wear their cap and gown to the commencement event. If your student has yet to purchase a cap and gown, please email Mrs. Salas at [email protected]. Moreover, in order to follow current health guidelines students are encouraged to wear masks when exiting their vehicles but may remove them when photographs are being taken of them.
I want to thank you for your patience and understanding as we waited on state and local officials to determine the health restrictions for graduation. In moving the date to June 20, our hope was that some of the most restrictive limitations would be lifted and enable the staff to host a traditional ceremony. Unfortunately, the health restrictions are still in place and the safety of our students, staff, and families remains our highest priority. In the Charter spirit of optimism and excellence, we are determined to create a memorable event to celebrate the hard work and remarkable achievement of our graduates.
I look forward to seeing you on Saturday, June 20 as we honor our graduates together!
Sincerely,
Shawn Roner
