First, we will need 2 additional drivers to get all of our runners to the upcoming events. Please let me know as soon as possible if you are able to drive. It is helpful and highly appreciated when our runners can arrive at the same time, regardless of individual race times.
Here are the Cluster #1 details:
*The meet takes place on Th. Oct. 14th at the UCSD Par Course (the grove and trails bounded by Genesee, Hopkins, and Voigt). Race times are 3:30 (JV boys), 4:00 (all girls), and 4:30 (Varsity boys).
*The course map is attached. Knowing the course is the runner's responsibility. Pay close attention to where the 3 loops join the main trail.
*This is also our Pink Meet, where we honor breast cancer patients and survivors and raise awareness. Our meet host, LJCDS, is including a donation opportunity. All month long LJCDS will be raising funds for Susan G. Komen San Diego. Anything donated at the meet will go to this amazing organization. (Runners, coaches, and parents are encouraged to wear pink- uniforms are not required if wearing pink)
*There is paid parking up by the track, along Hopkins south of Voigt, and in the Hopkins Parking Structure. Buses will need to park further away, probably by the gliderport on Torrey Pines Scenic Drive. Please remind your runners to unload and cross streets safely -- we've had complaints about this in the past.
* Our event coordinator will arrive around 1:30 to mark the course with cones. LJCDS will also bring a big clock, a table for the scoring board, and a bullhorn. We still need: two additional drivers to get to the event (we have 18 runners!) and parent volunteers for the finish area.
Please remind runners and parents:
(This is from our event host - please note)
*Pets are not allowed on the Par Course.
*The Challenge Course is strictly off-limits.
*There are bathrooms in Rimac and by the track. Masks are required indoors.
*Be aware of racers on the course and listen to coaches.
*Keep an eye out for snakes. In his 23 years of running these trails, he's only seen one, but it was this year.
*Don't give course directions unless asked to by a coach.
*Team areas need to be cleaned and checked before you leave.
Friday, 10/22 is the Kit Carson Invitational. Race times will be finalized by the Event Coordinator once they know how many entries they have in total. IF you will be out of town or unable to run, the deadline for adding/canceling registration is October 14 8:00 PM - after this date, I cannot make changes.
One more thing: for the 2nd cluster on Thursday, 10/28 we are also at UCSD. The course will be run in reverse. Again, we will need drivers.
Looking forward to another exciting week with our White Tigers!
